At Athletic Club Boise, the Community Impact STAR — Service, Teamwork, Accountability, and Responsibility — is symbolized by a single purple chair inside our stadium.
The chair reflects both the eye of the falcon in our crest and the Idaho star garnet. More importantly, it represents the people and organizations who strengthen our community in lasting ways, those who show up for others, create opportunity, and help shape a stronger future for Idaho.
During our October 3 match against Greenville Triumph SC, Athletic Club Boise recognized Laura Honn, Chief Executive Officer of the WCA, as our latest Community Impact STAR honoree.
SAFETY, HEALING AND FREEDOM
The WCA’s mission is clear: safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.
The organization supports people who are currently experiencing abuse as well as those working through experiences from their past. Its services include secure shelter, counseling, case management, court advocacy, crisis support and assistance with safety planning.
All WCA services are voluntary, confidential, and provided at no cost.
“We serve people whether you’re experiencing these things right now or maybe it’s something that you’ve experienced in the past,” Honn says.
HELP FOR EVERYONE
Despite its full name — the Women’s and Children’s Alliance — the WCA serves people of every gender.
The organization works to ensure that anyone affected by domestic abuse or sexual assault can find compassionate support without facing another barrier.
For Honn, making that message widely known is essential. Friends, relatives, coworkers, and neighbors can help by learning about the WCA’s services and directing someone to support when they need it.
“Everybody knows somebody who’s experienced domestic abuse or sexual assault,” she says.
LEADING THE WCA FORWARD
Honn joined the WCA in 2020 as Philanthropy Manager and later served as Director of Revenue and Outreach while supporting the organization’s client-facing community services teams.
In April 2026, she became the WCA’s Chief Executive Officer, bringing nearly two decades of experience in human services and nonprofit leadership to the role.
Her work is focused on ensuring that survivors can continue to access safe shelter, advocacy, and healing services while strengthening the community relationships that make those resources possible.
EVERY ACT OF SUPPORT MATTERS
Keeping those services available requires the support of the entire community.
As funding streams change, donations help the WCA maintain its shelters and provide essential services without charging clients. Volunteers also contribute their time across the organization, supporting outreach, court advocacy, administration, and other programs.
“Whether that be supporting through a financial contribution or volunteering your time, everything matters to us,” Honn says.
That support does more than sustain programs. It sends a message to survivors that their community believes them, stands beside them, and wants to help them build a life free from abuse.
SPORT AS A PLATFORM FOR SUPPORT
Honn sees Athletic Club Boise as an example of how a sports organization can use its platform to support the wider community.
By building a relationship with the WCA and sharing its resources, the club can help more people understand that assistance is available.
“It shows people that AC Boise supports victims of domestic abuse and wants to help them live a life free from abuse,” Honn says.
When teams, supporters and community organizations stand together, sport becomes another way to create awareness, strengthen connections and help people find a path toward safety.
SHARE THE NUMBERS
Honn hopes every supporter will save and share the WCA’s 24-hour hotline numbers.
Someone you know may need them.
24-Hour Domestic Abuse Hotline: 208-343-7025
The calls are confidential, and trained advocates are available to listen, provide information and help callers understand their options.
