Bio: Born in Cádiz, Spain, Jesús Barea is an attacking midfielder and forward known for his technical ability, creativity, and eye for goal. After developing through the Cádiz CF youth system in Spain, Barea moved to the United States to continue his career at Missouri State University, where he established himself as one of the nation’s top attacking players. Following a standout collegiate career, he was selected in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake and has since gained professional experience in both Major League Soccer and MLS NEXT Pro. His combination of technical quality, attacking instincts, and versatility makes him a dynamic addition to the squad.
Timeline: Barea developed in the Cádiz CF youth academy in Spain before moving to the United States to continue his soccer career at Missouri State University. Over four collegiate seasons from 2021 through 2024, he became one of the most decorated attacking players in program history, finishing his career with 34 goals and 19 assists while earning multiple All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.
During the 2024 season, Barea enjoyed a breakout campaign, starting all 18 matches and scoring 15 goals, the second-highest single-season total in Missouri State history and one of the top marks in NCAA Division I. His performances earned him Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honors and recognition as one of the nation’s most dangerous attackers.
In December 2024, Barea was selected 19th overall by Real Salt Lake in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, becoming one of the club’s four first-round selections.
Ahead of the 2025 MLS season, Barea signed his first professional contract with Real Salt Lake. While earning first-team appearances in Major League Soccer, he also featured prominently for Real Monarchs in MLS NEXT Pro, where he emerged as one of the league’s most productive attackers and continued his development in the RSL pathway.
