Bio: Born in Kumasi, Ghana, Josh Yaro is an experienced center back with a professional career spanning Major League Soccer, the USL Championship, and MLS NEXT Pro. Known for his athleticism, recovery speed, and composure in possession, Yaro has built a reputation as a reliable defender capable of organizing a back line. A former No. 2 overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft, he has made more than 100 professional appearances and brings veteran leadership, top-flight experience, and defensive quality to the squad.
Timeline: Yaro played collegiately at Georgetown University from 2013 to 2015, where he quickly established himself as one of the top defenders in college soccer. During his three seasons with the Hoyas, he earned multiple All-America honors, was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2015, and helped lead Georgetown to the 2015 NCAA College Cup Final.
Following his junior season, Yaro entered the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and was selected No. 2 overall by the Philadelphia Union. He spent four seasons with Philadelphia from 2016 through 2019, making appearances in MLS while also gaining additional minutes with Bethlehem Steel FC.
In 2020, Yaro joined San Antonio FC in the USL Championship, beginning a successful three-year run in the league. He appeared regularly for San Antonio before signing with San Diego Loyal SC ahead of the 2021 season. Over the next two seasons, he became a key contributor for the Loyal, helping the club reach the USL Championship Playoffs while adding valuable leadership and experience to the back line.
Ahead of 2023, Yaro signed with St. Louis CITY SC for the club’s inaugural MLS season. During his time with the organization, he contributed across both the first team and St. Louis CITY2, adding experience in MLS and MLS NEXT Pro competition.
